oobar2000: Foobar2000 is a freeware audio player for Microsoft Windows, iOS and Android.The key feature is, the user-interface is completely customizable. It is a convenient and flexible media player that a user can load with all of their favorite music and customize to suit their specific needs and preferences. Foobar is a slang term used in the IT world as a placeholder to refer to generic examples. The technical term for a word like foobar is a metasyntactic variable. These types of terms are used to name variables, programs or other parts of code. It is known for its highly modular design, breadth of features and substantial user flexibility in configuration and is developed by Peter Pawłowski.

Install Foobar2000 on Ubuntu 19.10/18.04.2 LTS- Using Terminal:

Note: Snappy is pre-installed on Ubuntu 16.04 and Higher Versions and however, it can be installed using sudo apt install snapd

Follow the below steps in order to install the Foobar2000 on Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), Ubuntu 19.04(Disco Dingo), Ubuntu 19.10(Eoan Ermine) and more.

  • Launch the terminal using shortcut key CTRL+ALT+T and type the following command in the terminal.
$sudo snap install foobar2000

  • The terminal will ask you for a password, provide your user account password to proceed with the installation process of this application.
  • Once the installation is done, then you can launch the application from Show Applications.

Install Foobar2000 on Ubuntu using Ubuntu Software – GUI:

This is an alternate method to install the Foobar2000 on Ubuntu. We will use Ubuntu Software to install the application. You can either open Ubuntu Software and search for Foobar2000 or simply click on the following button to open the installation page on your Ubuntu Software.

Launching Foobar2000 on Ubuntu:

Using the below two methods the Foobar2000 Ubuntu can be launched.

  • Launch via terminal
  • Launch via all apps menu

Launch the terminal using shortcut key CTRL+ALT+T and type the following command in the terminal.

Launching Foobar2000 Ubuntu via the All apps menu:

Click on the all apps menu icon in your Ubuntu desktop. Type the keyword “Foobar2000” so that it will be displayed below. Go ahead and choose the Foobar2000 icon so that it will be launched automatically.

Permissions for Foobar2000:

A user can enable or disable the desired permissions to Foobar2000 by clicking on the permissions tab.

  • Print documents.
  • Access hardware information.
  • Access files in your home folder.
  • Pause or end any process on the system.
  • Play and record sound.
  • Read/write files on removable storage devices.

Remove Foobar2000 from Linux Ubuntu – Using Terminal

Follow the below steps in order to remove the Foobar2000 via terminal.

  • Launch the terminal using shortcut key CTRL+ALT+T and type the following command in the terminal.
  • Execute the following command on the terminal.
$sudo snap remove foobar2000

Foobar2000 got removed

The terminal will ask you for a password, provide your user account password to proceed with the removal of Foobar2000 Ubuntu.
