oogle Cloud SDK for Linux Ubuntu: Google Cloud SDK provides a command-line interface for the products and services of the Google Cloud Platform. There are a number of products available under this platform which includes Networking, Storage, Databases, Management tools, Cloud AI, Security, Application Programming Interface(API), Internet of Things(IoT), and a lot more. In this article, we will see how to install Google SDK for Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 19.04, Fedora, Arch, OpenSUSE, CentOS, and more.

Install Google Cloud SDK for Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS/ 19.04:

Note: Snap is pre-installed on Ubuntu 16.04 and higher versions. However, it can be installed using the command sudo apt install snapd.

The following are the steps to install Google SDK for Linux Ubuntu and other Ubuntu-based Distros and also on Debian. We will use Snappy package management to install the Google SDK on Ubuntu. We have used Linux Mint 19.2 Tina to explain the procedure.

$sudo snap install google-cloud-sdk --classic

Kindly enter your system password to authenticate the installation process and wait for the installation to complete.

How to Install Google Cloud SDK on Ubuntu- Using GUI:

With Ubuntu Software, it is now possible to install this application on Ubuntu through the Graphical User Interface. The following are the steps.

  • Go to All Applications(Show Applications on Disco Dingo).
  • Locate Ubuntu Software from the menu and open it.
  • Click on the search symbol that is available on the Ubuntu software.
  • A search bar will dropdown. Search for Google Cloud SDK.
  • Once found, click on that and Choose Install.
  • Kindly wait till the installation completes.

Getting Help from Google Cloud on Command line:

The following is the command to be used to on the terminal to get Google Cloud help menu.

How to Remove/Uninstall Google Cloud SDK from Linux Ubuntu:

The following is the command to be used to remove or uninstall Google Cloud SDK from Linux Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based Distros.

$sudo snap remove google-cloud-sdk

The following are the commands to be used to install Google Cloud SDK on various Linux Distros such as Fedora, Arch, CentOS, and OpenSUSE.

Install Google Cloud SDK on Fedora:

$sudo dnf install snapd
$sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
$sudo snap install google-cloud-sdk --classic

Install Google Cloud SDK on Arch:

$git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/snapd.git
cd snapd
makepkg -si
$sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
$sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
$sudo snap install google-cloud-sdk --classic

Install Google Cloud SDK on CentOS:

$sudo yum install epel-release
$sudo yum install snapd
$sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
$sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
$sudo snap install google-cloud-sdk --classic

Install Google Cloud SDK on OpenSUSE:

$sudo zypper addrepo --refresh https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/system:/snappy/openSUSE_Leap_15.0 snappy
$sudo zypper --gpg-auto-import-keys refresh
$sudo zypper dup --from snappy
$sudo zypper install snapd
$sudo systemctl enable snapd
sudo systemctl start snapd
$sudo systemctl enable snapd.apparmor
sudo systemctl start snapd.apparmor
$sudo snap install google-cloud-sdk --classic
