ode-Red Ubuntu: It is a Development Tool from IBM that creates a merge between Internet of Things(IoT), API’s, Hardware and the online services. It dates back to 1970s when the first Flow-based Programming was invented by Paul Morrison.J Who termed an application’s functioning as Node-Red or simply Node. Node-Red is a Browser-Based flow editing which is built on Node.js is used to create Javascript methods. To keep its definition simple, it is nothing but a visual tool for wiring the Internet of Things. Node-Red is currently an Opensource Javascript foundation project. Install Node-Red on Linux Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based Distros:

Note: Snap is pre-installed on Ubuntu 16.04 and Higher versions, however, it can be installed using sudo apt install snapd.
  • The following are the commands to be used to install Node-red on Linux Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based Distros such as Linux Mint and more and also on Debian. We will use Snappy Package Manager to install this app on Ubuntu and other Distros.
$sudo snap install node-red

  • Kindly enter your system password to authenticate the installation process.

Launch the Application on Ubuntu:

  • Once the app is installed, then it can be launched from All Applications(Show Applications on Disco Dingo).

  • Once the app is clicked, it will open on your Default Browser. It can be Firefox or Chrome depending on your settings. Kindly refer to the following image. It is opened on Google Chrome Web Browser as it is my default one.

How to Remove Node-Red from Linux Ubuntu & Ubuntu-based Distros:

The following is the command to be used to remove Node-Red from Linux Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based Distros.

$sudo snap remove node-red

The above command will remove Node-Red from your Linux system.

How to Install Node-Red on Linux Fedora, Arch, CentOS, OpenSUSE, and more:

Node-Red for Fedora:

$sudo dnf install snapd
$sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
$sudo snap install node-red

Node-Red for Arch Linux:

$git clone
cd snapd
makepkg -si
$sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
$sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
$sudo snap install node-red

Node-Red for CentOS:

$sudo yum install epel-release
$sudo yum install snapd
$sudo systemctl enable --now snapd.socket
$sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap
$sudo snap install node-red

Node-Red for OpenSUSE:

$sudo zypper addrepo --refresh snappy
$sudo zypper --gpg-auto-import-keys refresh
$sudo zypper dup --from snappy
$sudo zypper install snapd
$sudo systemctl enable snapd
sudo systemctl start snapd
$sudo systemctl enable snapd.apparmor
sudo systemctl start snapd.apparmor
$sudo snap install node-red
