How to Install VSCodium Editor on Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS/ 19.04:

The following are the commands to be used to install VSCodium editor on Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, Ubuntu 19.04 and on other Ubuntu and Debian Distributions. We have used Linux Mint 19.2 Tina to explain the procedure.

  • Open Terminal using the shortcut CTRL + ALT + T.
  • Execute the following commands to install VSCodium on Ubuntu.
$wget -qO - | sudo apt-key add -
$echo 'deb vscodium main' | sudo tee --append /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vscodium.list
$sudo apt update
$sudo apt install codium

  • Kindly enter your system password when prompted to authenticate the installation process. The install will take some time(Around 2 to 5 minutes).
  • Once installed, then it can be launched from All Applications.

How to Remove/Uninstall VSCodium from Linux Ubuntu Distributions:

The following is the command to be used to remove or uninstall VSCodium from Linux 18.04, Linux 19.04, and other Ubuntu-based Distros.

$sudo apt remove codium
Remove VSCodium from Ubuntu

Install VSCodium Editor on Linux Fedora, CentOS, OpenSUSE, RHEL, and more:

$rpm --import
$printf "[gitlab.com_paulcarroty_vscodium_repo]\nname=gitlab.com_paulcarroty_vscodium_repo\nbaseurl=\nenabled=1\ngpgcheck=1\nrepo_gpgcheck=1\ngpgkey=" |sudo tee -a /etc/yum.repos.d/vscodium.repo
$dnf install codium

Install VSCodium on OpenSUSE:

$rpm --import
$printf "[gitlab.com_paulcarroty_vscodium_repo]\nname=gitlab.com_paulcarroty_vscodium_repo\nbaseurl=\nenabled=1\ngpgcheck=1\nrepo_gpgcheck=1\ngpgkey=" |sudo tee -a /etc/zypp/repos.d/vscodium.repo
$zypper in codium

Install VSCodium on Mac and Windows:

Brew is an Open source software package management available for macOS. VSCodium can be installed using Brew. The following is the command.

brew cask install vscodium

When it comes to Windows, you can either use Chocolatey or Scoop. Kindly make sure that you have them installed before proceeding with the installation of VSCodium on Windows.

Use Chocolatey to install VSCodium on Windows:

choco install vscodium

Use Scoop to install VSCodium on Windows:

scoop bucket add extras scoop install vscodium
