shw Command in Linux: The Lshw command used to fetch the detailed reports about the Hardware information. It displays the details about each component of your system such as memory configuration, firmware version, mainboard configuration, CPU version and speed, cache configuration, and bus speed, etc. This article will assist you to use lshw command in Linux Kubuntu 19.10.

Lshw Command Syntax:

usage: lshw [-format] [-options …]

This is a basic syntax of lshw command in Linux.

Note: Execute the Lshw Command with the SuperUser (sudo) privileges for the better and detailed information about your system hardware.
$
sudo lshw

Displays the full information about all the detected hardware on your system.

This command will display brief information about the Hardware.

Lshw Command Formats and Options:

format can be

        -html           output hardware tree as HTML
        -xml            output hardware tree as XML
        -json           output hardware tree as a JSON object
        -short          output hardware paths
        -businfo        output bus information

options can be

        -class CLASS    only show a certain class of hardware
        -C CLASS        same as '-class CLASS'
        -c CLASS        same as '-class CLASS'
        -disable TEST   disable a test (like pci, isapnp, cpuid, etc. )
        -enable TEST    enable a test (like pci, isapnp, cpuid, etc. )
        -quiet          don't display status
        -sanitize       sanitize output (remove sensitive information like serial numbers, etc.)
        -numeric        output numeric IDs (for PCI, USB, etc.)
        -notime         exclude volatile attributes (timestamps) from output

  • Open the terminal by pressing the shortcut keys CTRL+ALT+T.

sudo lshw -class memory
