mux is a Terminal Multiplexer, Which allows you handle multiple terminal sessions simultaneousy in the same window. Once you learn the cheet sheet list or TMUX Commands, it will be very easy to handle the TMUX utility in your PC.

Tmux Session Command List:

The below list contains the TMUX Commands which will help you handle Tmux Sessions:

Command To Start a New Session:
  • tmux
  • tmux new
  • tmux new-session
  • new
Starting a new session with the name newsession:
  • tmux new -s newsession
  • new -s newsession
Show all sessions:
  • tmux ls
  • tmux list-sessions
  • Ctrl + b s
Remove or Deleting the newsession:
  • tmux kill-ses -t newsession
  • tmux kill-session -t newsession
Deleting all session except current session:
  • tmux kill-session -a
Deleting all session except newsession:
  • tmux kill-session -a -t mysession
Renaming Session:
  • Ctrl + b $
Detach from session:
  • Ctrl + b d
Attach to last session:
  • tmux a
  • tmux at
  • tmux attach
  • tmux attach-session
Attach to the session with the name newsession:
  • tmux a -t newsession
  • tmux at -t newsession
  • tmux attach -t newsession
  • tmux attach-session -t newsession
Move to the next session & previous session:
  • Ctrl + b )
  • Ctrl + b (

Tmux Window Command List:

starting a new session with the name newsession and window newwindow
  • tmux new -s newsession -n newwindow
Access next window
  • Ctrl + b n
Creating a new windows
  • Ctrl + b c
Renaming the current window
  • Ctrl + b ,
closing the current window
  • Ctrl + b &
Going to previous window
  • Ctrl + b p
Selecting window by Number
  • Ctrl + b 0 … 9
Swapping windows from source to destination
  • swap-window -s 3 -t 1
Move the current window to left by two position
  • swap-window -t -2

Tmux Panes Command List:

Some essential Panes Command
  • swap-window -t -2 – Toggle last pane
  • Ctrl + b % – Split pane vertically
  • Ctrl + b “ – Split pane horizantically
  • Ctrl + b { – Move the current pane to the left
  • Ctrl + b } – Move the current pane to the right
  • Ctrl + b Spacebar – Toggle between two layout
  • Ctrl + b o – Switch to next pane
  • Ctrl + b q – Show pane numbers
  • Ctrl + b q 0 … 9 – Switch pane by the number of windows
  • Ctrl + b z – Toggle pane zoom
  • Ctrl + b ! – Convert a pane into window
  • Ctrl + b x – Closing current window
  • Ctrl + b Spacebar – Toggle between pane layouts
  • Ctrl + b o – Switching between two panes
  • setw synchronize-panes – Synchronizing two panes
Switching pane using direction
  • Ctrl + b ←

Resizing pane height
  • Ctrl + b ←

TMUX Copy Command-List:

Essentail copy command list
  • Ctrl + b [ – Entering Copy mode
  • Ctrl + b PgUp – Entering copy mode & scroll one page up
  • q – Quit
  • g – Goto the top line
  • G – Goto the bottom line
  • – Scroll Down
  • – Scroll Up
  • h – Move cursor left
  • j – Move cursor down
  • k – Move cursor up
  • l – Move cursor right
  • b – Move cusrsor backword one word
  • w – Move cusrsor forword one word
  • / – Search forword
  • ? – Search backword
  • n – Next keyword occurance
  • N – Previous keyword occurance
  • Spacebar – Start Selection
  • Esc – Clear Selection
  • Enter – Copy Selection
  • Ctrl + b ] – Paste the content to buffer_0
  • show-buffer – Displays the copied values in buffer_0
  • capture-pane – Copy visible contents of a pane to buffer
  • list-buffers – Lists all buffer
  • choose-buffer – Lists all buffer & paste the selected
  • save-buffer buf.txt – Save the buffer in txt format
  • delete-buffer -b 1 – Deletes the buffer

TMUX MISC Command-List:

Essential Misc commands
  • Ctrl + b : – Enter command mode
  • setw -g OPTION – Set option for all windows
  • set -g OPTION – Set option for all sessions

TMUX HELP Command-List:

Essential Help commands
  • tmux info – Show every information about windows, panes & Session
  • Ctrl + b ? – Show the Shortcuts
