isual Studio Code – Insiders: Visual Studio Code is a lightweight but powerful source code editor which runs perfectly on desktop and its available for Linux, macOS and Windows. Visual Studio Code is a streamlined code editor with support for development operations like debugging, task running, and version control. It aims to provide just the tools a developer needs for a quick code-build-debug cycle and leaves more complex workflows to fuller featured IDEs, such as Visual Studio IDE. Visual Studio Code comes with built-in support for JavaScript, TypeScript, and Node.js and has a rich ecosystem of extensions for other languages (such as C++, C#, Java, Python, PHP, Go) and runtimes (such as .NET and Unity).

Install Visual Studio Code – Insiders on Ubuntu 19.10/18.04.2 LTS- Using Terminal:

Note: Snappy is pre-installed on Ubuntu 16.04 and Higher Versions and however, it can be installed using sudo apt install snapd

Follow the below steps in order to install the Visual Studio Code on Linux Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver), Ubuntu 19.04(Disco Dingo), Ubuntu 19.10(Eoan Ermine) and more. Launch the terminal using shortcut key CTRL+ALT+T and type the following command in the terminal.

$sudo snap install code-insiders --classic

The terminal will ask you for a password, provide your user account password to proceed with the installation process of the Visual Studio Code.

Once the installation is done, then you can launch the application from Show Applications.

Install Visual Studio Code – Insiders on Ubuntu using Ubuntu Software – GUI:

This is an alternate method to install the Visual Studio Code on Ubuntu. We will use Ubuntu Software to install the application. You can either open Ubuntu Software and search for Visual Studio Code or simply click on the following button to open the installation page of the Visual Studio Code on your Ubuntu Software.

Launching Visual Studio Code – Insiders on Ubuntu:

Using the below two methods the Visual Studio Code Ubuntu can be launched.

  • Launch via terminal
  • Launch via all apps menu

Launch the terminal using shortcut key CTRL+ALT+T and type the following command in the terminal.

$code-insiders

Launching Visual Studio Code – Insiders Ubuntu via the All apps menu:

Click on the all apps menu icon in your Ubuntu desktop. Type the keyword “Visual Studio Code” so that it will be displayed below. Go ahead and choose the Visual Studio Code icon so that it will be launched automatically.

Remove Visual Studio Code – Insiders from Linux Ubuntu – Using Terminal

Follow the below steps in order to remove the Visual Studio Code via terminal.

  • Launch the terminal using shortcut key CTRL+ALT+T and type the following command in the terminal.
  • Execute the following command on the terminal.
$sudo snap remove code-insiders

The terminal will ask you for a password, provide your user account password to proceed with the removal of Visual Studio Code Ubuntu.

Remove Visual Studio Code – Insiders using Ubuntu software-GUI

Open Ubuntu Software and search for Visual Studio Code in the search box. Click on the remove tab in order to remove the Inkscape GUI.
